Mills College Art Lecture Series: Kate Nichols

Kate Nichols:  “Thinking in Paint: Experiments and Meanderings at the Edge of Painting”
November 9, 2016
7:00 PM, Danforth Lecture Hall

Kate Nichols uses painting as a platform for material experimentation and innovation. She synthesizes nanoparticles to mimic structurally colored animals, grows artificial skin from microorganisms, and makes her own paints following 15th-century recipes. In 2008, Kate became the first artist-in-residence in the Alivisatos Lab, a nanoscience laboratory at UC Berkeley. She is the 2015 recipient of the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship at the San Francisco Art Institute. Sponsored by the Herringer Graduate Lecture Series.
